Working closely with internationally known contemporary book artist Doug Beube, Florio Design conceived his monograph to showcase his life-work. The effort was intensely collaborative, meant to ensure the book communicated the depth, breadth and uniqueness of his work. The jacket design uses a perforated lozenge-shaped band which when removed, reveals a smaller duplicated image, reflecting the "looking through" effect visible in many of Beube’s interactive works. While the book features an in-depth series of authored essays, we advised the artist to inject his personal voice via extended captions. This counterpoint of critical and personal perspectives instructs and helps the reader engage with and understand Beube's intelligent, tactile and beautiful approach to his art.
